What’s all the fuss about protein?

Well, protein is one of the three macro nutrients that your body needs. The other two are fat and carbohydrates, which we will discuss at a later date.

Protein provides your body with amino acids which literally build every cell in your body. Your skin, your nails, your muscles, all built by protein. Unlike fat and carbohydrates, our body can’t store protein for later use. This means that without enough protein in your diet, your body cannot recover, repair, or build.

Proteins are also slow to digest, which lets you stay full for longer. The longer you feel full, the less likely you are to binge or reach for something convenient that isn’t on your plan.

We suggest that you eat protein with every meal and more of it later in the day. For optimum health and body composition aim to get 40% of your calories from protein. Try to vary your sources by including nuts, seeds, seafood, and other meats into your diet. The more active you are, the more protein you will need. If you need more guidance, ask your trainer about your specific needs.
